I feel the energy mounting, and hope you do too… What do you think about the state of our country and world today? If you know about what’s been going on, you must have some thoughts, and if you don’t, then you must have some questions…
So let’s talk! What are your thoughts about the following:
-Americans are politically disenfranchised and subjected to economic injustice. More often than not, we are wage slaves living paycheck to paycheck and on credit, if we are lucky enough to even have jobs at this point. One sixth of the US is living in “poverty”, although I would say it’s far worse; we are not only impoverished economically, but also intellectually, creatively and spiritually. Producers and consumers, we are no longer treated with human dignity. Our basic human rights are not being met. So many of us are in so much debt, especially the educated youth that will be paying for our useless college degrees for years to come. Others of us who didn’t or couldn’t pursue further education are in debt just the same. Moreover, so many young Americans are convinced to suit up and fight in unjust wars and then shunned upon return to “the real world”. And it’s not just the veterans who suffer due to insufficient healthcare and broken promises, it’s all of us- from our grandparents to our neighbors’ babies. Our government is no longer serving the interests of the people, but rather, swaying to the demands of the super wealthy elite, waging wars against the world and against us, the populace. We are living in increasingly untenable conditions.
-Corporations control all the money and own the media, and create new legislation and loopholes for themselves whenever they can. Our government serves corporate interests over those of the people.
-People began assembling and organizing on Wall Street on September 17th 2011 to show their disapproval of the state of the nation, considering issues like those I mentioned above and many others. This movement seems to be about joining together in a democratic manner to propose ways to make real changes in our world. This is not just about posturing, holding up signs and chanting in the streets. This is about bringing the power back to the people, which involves actually being involved. People all over the world have been joining in solidarity, including a branch in our very own windy city, Chicago, which has been going strong since Friday, the 23rd.
-Police have already brutalized PEACEFUL protesters in New York… And now they are trying to kick #OccupyChicago off the sidewalk at the FED at LaSalle and Jackson, which is a PUBLIC SPACE… In other words, they are beginning to terrorize us to keep us feeling scared, powerless and scattered. We need to unite and work together to establish sustainable alternatives and political and economic justice in America. This is just the beginning… Who knows what tactics they will resort to as the assemblies grow and the people continue to mobilize.
-Mainstream media are mum and social networking sites blatantly censor the #Occupy Movements at home and abroad. They don’t want the people to know they have power if they come together.
IS THIS WHAT A FREE COUNTRY LOOKS LIKE?
He who controls the flow of information (the news, the internet, the educational system) can control the thoughts and actions of the people. If we don’t spread these messages of hope and new dreams for the future by any means available, TV news certainly won’t do it for us! And we all know how much Americans love TV news!
This is a call for an awakening. Now is the time. Our government derives its power based on the consent of the people. It is not serving our interests and we will no longer stand for it! Join in the movement towards political, economic and personal liberation in any way you can, but especially by learning everything possible and working with your families, friends, and neighbors to fix our problems from the ground up! Make it personal and join in the conversation. Everyone has something they can contribute!
